When Novice Theory founder and out transgender musician Geo Wyeth hit Yale’s School of Music, the profs didn’t know what to make of this keyboard prodigy with a flair for transformation.  Born into a family of actors, musicians, and all around performance gurus, Geo had been captivating audiences with original songs, compositions, rap, and slam poetry since the age of 11.

His music and stage shows as one-man-band Novice Theory run the gambit of musical history and technique: his piano licks alternate between roaring rhythms a la Jerry Lee Lewis to intricate, delicate, finger-bending Bach fugues.  And just when you thought you’d heard it all, he’ll pick up an accordion and delve deep into klezmer runs.

Lyrics that spin tales both intimate and worldly, music that defies definition and shifts effortlessly between eras and styles, and a bigger-than-life stage presence all add up to something truly spectacular: Novice Theory, maybe, but Expertly Captivating for sure.
